Dairy giant Amul has refuted the claims made in a viral video showing alleged fungus growth in a packet of the brand’s lassi. The company called the video fake and accused the creator of spreading false information and creating unnecessary panic among consumers. A video going viral on social media shows the alleged discovery of fungus in Amul Lassi packs, despite the fact that they were past their expiry date.
In response to the claim being made in the viral video, Amul said that the packets seen in the video had damage in the straw hole area and liquid was clearly leaking from this place. According to the company, fungal growth in these packets could be the reason for the damage and it is likely that the video maker was aware of this.
Amul responded on Twitter saying, “The maker of the video has not contacted us for clarification nor disclosed the location.” The tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of the video, which showed damage in the straw hole area of the tetra packet.

The dairy giant stressed, “Amul Lassi is made at our state-of-the-art dairies and undergoes stringent quality checks for product quality and packaging integrity.”
To reassure customers, Amul highlights that they include an announcement on all their packs that says “DO NOT BUY PUFFED/LEAKY PACKS”, warning customers not to buy puffed or leaky packs . According to Amul, this is standard practice to ensure the safety of its customers.
Many users responded to Amul’s response by stressing their trust in the quality of the brand. “Most of us haven’t even seen the said video, even if we did, it wouldn’t matter. Amul stands for tradition, quality, trust etc,” wrote a user.
