The national health strategy (SNS) was introduced in the Public Health Code (CSP) in 2016. This allows the framework of health policies to be established on a multi-year basis, defining “priority areas of action and objectives to improve health and social protection against diseases” ( article L. 1411-1-1 of the CSP). The SNS is monitored and evaluated annually, and the results are made public.
Launched in early 2018, the previous national health strategy concluded at the end of 2022, in a period marked by the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The SNS is organized around three main objectives:
- Enable our fellow citizens to live longer in good health, through prevention, health promotion and support at all ages of life;
- Satisfy the health needs of everyone, throughout the territory, with an adapted health and medical-social offer;
- Make our health system more resilient and better prepared to face ecological challenges and crises.
The SNS will also include four specific components. Namely:- A specific health component for children and adolescents,
- An overseas section,
- A Corsican section,
- A specific health strategy to support the armed forces.
