Passing through the Indonesian archipelago, a paradise for high-end Western tourism, French journalist Hugo Clément discovered the other side of the gloomy setting of the postcard of paradise.
Hugo Clément was on the small Indonesian island of Gili Trawangan, east of Bali, between the famous tourist destination and the equally famous Lombok. The journalist and ecological activist was present during the filming of “Sur le front” (TV5 Monde), his program dedicated to the environmental cause.
Amazing contrast
His observation is worth the detour. While tourist towns and very high-end hotels flourish almost everywhere in the archipelago and display their undeniable advantages, a surprising contrast is offered to the visitor who dares to venture behind the scenes of these impeccable-looking paradisiacal accommodations.
“Eco-responsible” approach
In fact, a particularly worrying ecological catastrophe is taking place right behind the hotel. A show that questions the damage caused by mass tourism, hidden from view. A real open-air dump hidden just a stone’s throw from customers, despite the “eco-responsible” approach cultivated by the establishment’s management on its website, which boasts in particular of “waste management”.
“Be careful with Instagram tourism, beautiful photographs made to attract you and that hide the consequences,” warns Hugo Clément.
