Security tightened in Tripura ahead of PM’s visit, projects worth Rs 4,350 crore to be launched

Agartala: Security has been beefed up across Tripura for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s December 18 visit to the northeastern state, where elections are due early next year, officials said.

West Tripura District Magistrate (DM) Debpriya Bardhan said the PM is expected to land at the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport at 2.25 pm and leave for Agartala’s Vivekananda Maidan, where he will address a rally amid tight security.

Bardhan said he would lay the foundation stones of several initiatives and inaugurate several projects, besides interacting with the beneficiaries of the central and state governments.

The DM said that special trains have been arranged to bring people from across the state to the rally.

Along with this, buses will also be installed to take the beneficiaries of government schemes to the public meeting.

Bardhan said that after the rally, Modi would go to the state guest house at around 4 pm.

BJP sources said that keeping in mind the assembly elections to be held next year, the PM will hold separate meetings of the state ministers and the BJP core committee.
