Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sushil Modi on Saturday said same-sex marriage will play havoc with the delicate balance of personal laws in the country and urged the government to argue strongly against it.
The Rajya Sabha MP said such an important social issue cannot be decided by two judges and the matter demands debate in Parliament and society at large.
He also hit out at supporters of same-sex marriage, saying, “Some left-liberals and activists are trying to change the ethos of the country. I urge the government to argue strongly against same-sex marriage in court.”

The BJP MP’s remarks come in the backdrop of the Supreme Court giving the PM Narendra Modi-led central government a deadline till January 6 to file its reply on the sensitive matter.
