Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Tuesday took a jibe at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying he was driving under the influence of alcohol in the state. “In the condition in which he (Punjab CM Mann) used to come to Parliament, in the same condition he is in Punjab. While an inexperienced comedian has been made CM [Delhi CM Arvind] Kejriwal is using Punjab’s money in state elections and gangsters are running the state.
As part of a calling attention motion in the Lok Sabha on the problem of drug abuse in the country, he said that there were signboards on the roads warning against drunken driving. “But the Chief Minister of Punjab is running the state under the influence of alcohol,” he said. He was pointing to the alleged drinking habit of Maan, wife of Bathinda MP and party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Attacking the AAP government in Punjab, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that even the Supreme Court had said that liquor and drugs were harming Punjab. “The youth of Punjab are dying due to excessive use of drugs and this menace is now slowly spreading to other parts of the country like Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat,” he said.
Referring to the huge cache of drugs seized in Gujarat recently, he said that drug terrorism is being spread across the country.
Congress MP from Amritsar Gurjit Singh Aujla said that to combat drug abuse in India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah should ensure that machines are installed at airports so that drugs do not enter the country .
Aujla said that the police should also be upgraded to check drug trafficking. “Instead of blaming each other, if we work together on a concrete policy, then only we will be able to move forward towards stopping this menace,” he said.
