Nine minors who escaped on Sunday afternoon after a riot at their detention center are wanted by the authorities of the state of Pennsylvania (northeastern United States), the police announced.
Law enforcement, including Pennsylvania State Police, “are searching for nine juveniles who escaped from Abraxas Academy” on Sunday afternoon around 8 p.m. local time, wrote David Beohm, a member of the Pennsylvania State Police. Pennsylvania, on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
“The minors who flee are generally dressed in gray pants or shorts and a gray shirt,” he adds, launching a call for testimonies.
According to Beohm, a search perimeter was established around the juvenile detention center located in Morgantown, southern Pennsylvania.
“There was a riot at Abraxas Academy tonight,” the Caernarvon Township Police Department said in a separate statement Sunday night. The local authorities “have regained control of the juvenile detention center.”
This center serves young offenders between the ages of 14 and 18 in a specialized residential treatment program, according to its website.
It is 15 miles west of the rural town where fugitive killer Danelo Cavalcante, a 34-year-old Brazilian sentenced to life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend, was arrested Wednesday after two weeks of intense manhunt.
His escape, revealed by a video from the Chester County jail camera released by authorities, was as spectacular as it was embarrassing for prison, police and judicial authorities.
The prisoner could be seen hiding in a gap in the patio, then agilely climbing up, Spider-Man style, with his body horizontally between two walls, and disappearing into the ceiling.
