After the Bihar spurious liquor case, police on Tuesday seized country-foreign liquor from JDU leader’s house on Station Road in Chhapra’s Madhaura Nagar area amid outrage and widespread action against illegal country liquor smugglers.
Police raided on informer’s information and detained a woman for questioning.
The house from where liquor has been seized belongs to JDU’s state leader Kameshwar Singh. Liquor was allegedly seized from the tenant who was renting the house. Sources told that JDU leaders do not live in the house. A person named Saroj Saroj Mahto and his wife have taken a house on rent and live there as tenants.
After the raid, the police took the woman into custody.
Inspector Rakesh Kumar Singh told that he had received information that illegal liquor was being kept in the house. “During the raid we found two bottles of foreign liquor and country liquor.
Apart from the police, the Excise Department team was also present during the raid. Kameshwar Singh is a resident of Mashrak, where the maximum number of deaths have occurred due to spurious liquor. He has a house in Marhaura. Kameshwar Singh is a member of JDU State Council.
Nearly 60 people died after consuming spurious liquor in Bihar’s Saran district last week, the biggest hooch tragedy in the state since April 2016. However, the BJP claimed that over 100 deaths occurred due to spurious country liquor.
Earlier, Isuapur police station in Saran district Sanjay Ram, security guard Hari Rai, officer Krisha Singh, security guard Ramnath Manjhi of Masrakh police station in Saran were suspended in connection with the death. Liquor mafia Anil Singh has been arrested by the SIT formed to investigate the deaths due to spurious liquor in Bihar’s Chhapra, Siwan and Begusarai. Under Operation Clean, 271 liquor traders have also been arrested. Apart from this, 6,335 liters of liquor and 21 vehicles have been seized so far.
