For the occasion, more than 14,000 people sent him wishes through his foundation, the Carter Center, which created a mosaic in his image by gathering messages sent by his admirers.
Despite being physically limited due to his illness, Jimmy Carter would be very aware of the love he has received since he announced that he would receive palliative care, according to his son, Jason Carter, to the American media CNN.
The one who was president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 also kept well informed of the news and the latest results of his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves.
Jason Carter says the sympathies expressed by the public over the past few months have helped him personally come to terms with the fact that his father is in his final moments.
“I wasn’t prepared to experience that daily pain,” explains Jason Carter. Doing it publicly has been wonderful because of the support we received.”
He adds that his parents are “at home, in love, and they know it.”
“You can’t get much more out of life than what you’ve been given, and they know it,” he adds. My parents are at peace.”
The Carter family will gather on Sunday to privately commemorate this anniversary.
