new Delhi: Referring to the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed confidence in the youth of the country and said that the day is not far when we will celebrate a similar festival in India and cheer the Indian flag.
PM Modi inaugurated various development projects during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council in Shillong. During the programme, PM Modi said, we are watching today’s game in Qatar (FIFA World Cup) and watching foreign teams on the field. But I have faith in the youth of the country. So, I can say with confidence that the day is not far when we in India will celebrate a similar festival and cheer for the tricolor.
PM Modi also said, ‘When football fever is gripping all of us, why don’t we talk in football terms? When a player goes against the spirit, he is shown a red card and sent off. We have shown red cards to many who are hindrances in the development of the Northeast.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of North Eastern states and others are participating in the function. According to an official statement, on the occasion PM Modi released ‘Golden Footprints’, a commemorative edition of NEC’s contribution to the development of the Northeast over the last 50 years.
A short film on the 50-year journey of NEC was also screened on the occasion, the statement said. Besides the PM, Shah and G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) addressed the session.
The Prime Minister, who will visit Tripura later in the day, will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 6,800 crore in the two northeastern states during the day.
