Converted into buffer zone
After the Galwan clash, Indian and Chinese forces retreated from strategic areas such as Galwan, Pangang Tso, Gogra and Hotsprings in the Depsang Plains. Actually these areas are in our area. That’s why earlier the Indian Army used to patrol in these areas. There is pressure on China to expand these areas, which are now limited to a certain extent as buffer zones, up to 15-20 kms and convert the entire area into a buffer zone. The Centre, which should have categorically rejected it, resorted to appeasement. For the buffer zone, not 15-20 km, but an area of 3-4 km has been proposed as OK. But China turned down this request. To this extent, an officer of the Intelligence Department of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) said that ‘The Telegraph’ has disclosed in its article. If this continues, the contours of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) area will change. “India will lose more territory,” the official said. Defense experts are worried that if these areas are converted into buffer zones, the Indian Army will not have the right to patrol there, we will lose our authority over those areas and the contours of the LAC may change.
