FNC Programming | Make way for the new cinema

Like every year, the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) echoes the extraordinary vitality of global and local film creation. From La Grande Nuit Mad Max to the new documentary by Richard Desjardins, passing through the new feature films by Bertrand Bonello and Catherine Breillat, the choice is wide and varied.

The FNC released the complete program of its 52ndmy edition, which will take place from October 4 to 15. No less than 105 feature films from 57 countries will be presented at different venues in the city, including the Cinéma Impérial, the Cinéma du Musée, the Cinémathèque québécoise and the Cinéma Moderne.

The starting signal will be given on October 4 with The Passion of Dodin Bouffant. Best director at the last Cannes Film Festival, this historical drama with a gastronomic background is by Trần Anh Hùng. It marks the on-screen reunion of Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel. Another special event, Big Mad Max Night, on October 7. The FNC invites fans of the post-apocalyptic cult franchise Mad Max to (re)discover the four George Miller classics during a unique evening with the extra screening of the latest work, Mad Max: Fury Road“in black and chrome version.”

French director Bertrand Bonello will be in Montreal to premiere his feature film The beast and the Festival will take the opportunity to offer a complete retrospective of his feature films and short films. Another retrospective cycle will highlight the work of Ariane Louis-Seize, who has just won the award for best director for her first feature film Humanistic vampire seeking to commit suicide with consent in the Giornate degli Autori section of Venice.

Director Catherine Breillat will also visit the FNC with her 14my feature film, Last summer. She will be accompanied by her lead actress, Léa Drucker, and will also teach a master class.

Finally, the FNC organizes a Movie Night for Peace, with the presentation of Ken Loach’s latest film, The old oakin which it takes “the pulse of a community in the north of England divided between rejection and solidarity in the face of the arrival of Syrian refugees,” summarizes the FNC press release.

During the closing of ’52my edition of the FNC, on October 15, several prizes will be awarded to reward the works presented in the different sections of the festival.
