Valentin Reznichenko, governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region where Kryvyi Rih is located, wrote on the Telegram social media app that “rescuers pulled out the body of a 1-1/2-year-old boy from under the rubble of a house that was destroyed In total, four people were killed in the strike and 13 were injured, four of whom were children, officials said.
The victims were “a young family with a 64-year-old woman and a young son”, he wrote.
Reznichenko said Russian military shelling continued overnight, damaging power lines and homes in the cities and towns of Nikopol, Murhanets and Chervonoharihorivka, which are across the Dnieper River from Russia’s occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
As of Saturday morning, Ukraine’s military leadership said Russian forces had updated the number of missiles fired in the latest attack to 98. It did not say how many missiles were intercepted by the air defense in total.
Friday’s attack, which devastated parts of central, eastern and southern Ukraine, was one of the biggest ever on the capital Kyiv in a war sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Kyiv came under fire from around 40. missiles on Friday, though air defenses intercepted 37 of them, officials said.
Employees of the electricity department were scrambling to fix the damaged electricity and water system.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Saturday that two-thirds of homes had been reconnected to electricity and all had access to running water. The subway system also resumed service after operating as a shelter the day before.
In Kryvyi Rih, 596 miners trapped underground due to missile attacks were all rescued, Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul reported late Friday.
