New Delhi: The Center has announced that international passengers will be tested for Covid at the airport. It has been clarified that random Covid tests will be done from today. Alerted by the rise in Covid cases across the world, the Center today held a high-level review of the situation under the leadership of Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Officials said the decision to conduct the tests was taken after a meeting.
Official sources said that random samples of international passengers coming from various countries including China will be taken. According to officials, the BF.7 omicron sub-variant is the main cause of the current tsunami of corona cases in China. So far three cases have been reported in India. While it was detected in Gujarat in October, so far only two cases have been reported in Gujarat and one in Odisha. Officials said the incubation period for the variant is very short. Cases have also been reported in the US, UK, Belgium, Germany, France and Denmark.
However, after the meeting, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the danger of Kovid has not yet been averted and everyone should be alert. He said that the concerned officers have been ordered to increase vigilance. The experts and senior officials who attended the meeting said that they are ready to face any eventuality and explained about the Covid situation across the globe. NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul said that only 27-28 percent of the eligible population in the country has taken the Covid booster dose. VK Paul appealed people to wear masks in crowded places.
