Currently three systems are going to be monitored in the Atlantic Ocean. One of them could affect us this weekend. Forecast.
Nigel less strong than expected
Tropical Storm Nigel was initially thought to become a major hurricane. Not only has it not reached category 3, but its trajectory will cause it to avoid any inhabited area. The hurricane is currently heading north and is expected to turn eastward, more than 1,000 kilometers off the coast of the Maritimes. Therefore, Nigel will not cause any harm.
A nascent system
However, a system could take shape in West Africa. For now, it is just a tropical wave that generates showers and thunderstorms. However, its chances of becoming a tropical storm in the next seven days are estimated to be 70%. If progress continues, its westward trajectory will need to be closely monitored.
rain and wind
Another system is more unusual and could have effects in Quebec. It is currently located very close to the coast of South Carolina. It is estimated that there is a 30% chance that it will become a tropical storm. But no matter how it develops, this low pressure system is sure to bring strong winds and heavy rain from South Carolina to Virginia.
A crucial path
The system is moving north and its trajectory could be determined by an anticyclone over the Atlantic Ocean. This anticyclone could harm us. If powerful enough, it could push the low pressure system westward and Quebec would therefore receive a portion of the rain towards the end of the weekend. If the anticyclone is rather modest, depression will prevail. In this way, the system would head east and avoid Quebec. Therefore, it will be necessary to closely monitor the trajectory of this system over the next few days.
