Princes’ Day was chaotic this Tuesday in Holland. Members of the royal family, including King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, were especially whistled at. During this “Prinsjesdag” inverted Dutch flags were also flown. For her part, Princess Alexia, 18, caused a sensation.

The traditional parade of Dutch princes in the glass carriage in The Hague was whistled by some passers-by while King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Princess Amalia were on board. Members of the royal family were also booed during the traditional Noordeinde Palace balcony scene after the throne speech. In addition to the king and queen, princesses Amalia and Alexia, Prince Constantin and Princess Laurentien were on the balcony. After a while waving to the crowd, they returned inside.
A few hours before the parade there was already a bit of tension. One person was arrested and several were evacuated by police.
Alexia wants the star
Princess Alexia, 18, also participated in the procession, a first for Amalia’s sister. The young princess caught the attention of the Dutch press for her glamorous appearance. She wore a long fuchsia dress by designer Zhivago, which she accentuated with dazzling accessories.
Alexia emerged from the crystal carriage in the company of her uncle, Prince Constantin, and her aunt, Princess Laurentien. Her grandmother, Princess Beatrice, watched from the Council of State building. Amalia, 19, attended the ceremony for the first time last year and was faithful by her younger sister’s side during this edition.
extinction rebellion
The police were in great demand this third Tuesday in September, the traditional Princes’ Day in the Netherlands. In addition to some voices of protest in the city center, around 200 Extinction Rebellion activists blocked a section of the A12 motorway. As during the blockades carried out in recent days, the police activated water cannons to disperse the protesters.
Since September 9, the Extinction Rebellion (XR) group has been leading this action every day. In particular, it calls on the authorities to end direct subsidies to the fossil fuel industry.
