A 76-year-old man was charged with illegally practicing medicine. He would also have hidden 952,000 euros to the detriment of the URSSAF and taxes.
A major criminal seizure was made at the home of a 76-year-old healer in Colombiers, in Charente-Maritime, the Saintes prosecutor’s office learned on Monday, September 18.
The man, officially declared retired, received a pension from the Mutualité Sociale Agricole. But upon closer inspection, investigators discovered full appointment books and mailings of checks for up to 40,000 euros per month. Large sums of cash and 3.7 kilos of gold worth 228,000 euros were also discovered during the searches.
These illegal activities were not declared either to the URSSAF or to the tax services. And the investigation made it possible to reconstruct his illicit activity over a period of 6 years during which he should have paid, according to the investigation, 952,000 euros in taxes and contributions.
Luxury cars were also seized, some from inheritance, including a Porsche 997, a Mercedes E Class and a BMW Z4. Vehicles, assets and money were seized in bank accounts to be paid to the agency for the management and recovery of seized and confiscated assets.
The man was taken into police custody and must answer in criminal court for illegal practice of medicine and undercover work. He risks three years in prison and several tens of thousands of euros in fines.
