12 people died due to heavy rains in Rajasthan’s Tonk district, Orange alert issued

A dozen people were killed and others injured in separate incidents due to heavy rain and thunderstorm in Rajasthan’s Tonk district, news agency PTI reported.

Due to strong winds on Thursday evening, heavy rains lashed various parts of the district, causing both loss of life and property. The gust was recorded at the Jaipur International Airport with a top speed of 96 kmph.

Meanwhile, the MeT department has issued orange alert for various places in the state for Friday, predicting intense rainfall and gusty wind with wind speed between 50-60 kmph. In some areas, there may be occurrence of rain along with hailstorm.

According to Tonk District Collector Chinmayi Gopal, Tonk district has recorded a total of 12 deaths, including three in Tonk city, three in Niwai block, two each in Malpura and Deoli, as well as one each in Toda Rai. Singh and Uniara. Gopal said that the injured have been taken to various hospitals across the district for treatment.

According to the District Collector, there have been reports of problems in water and electricity supply in some areas, and steps are being taken to rectify the situation.

Field workers gathered on the field since night are trying to assess the total damage caused by rain and storm. After the completion of the report, persons meeting the eligibility criteria will get compensation as per government rules, she said.

According to PC Kishan, the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) will provide assistance to the deceased.

The weather data of the last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Friday indicates that Jaipur tehsil has received 6 cm of rain. Meanwhile, Malpura in Tonk, Laxmangarh in Sikar, Pilani in Jhunjhunu, Baunli in Sawai Madhopur, Hindaun in Karauli, Sambhar and Chaksu in Jaipur as well as Sarwar in Ajmer recorded 5 cm of rain.

Many places across the state received rainfall between 1 to 4 cm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a weather bulletin, “Thunderstorm will continue in the districts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota divisions on May 27 as well.”

From May 28, another new Western Disturbance will become active and the storm will intensify again. Strong storm, strong winds with a speed of 50 to 70 kmph, heavy rain at some places and strong possibility of lightning and hailstorm.
